The problem seems to be that people believe their opinion comes first and a character's word on the matter comes second, when it's really the other way around. We're the ones reading the story, following the characters through their journey. What the characters say (statements) and do (feats) guide us. Subjectivity is a dangerous drug when it comes to discussing character strength.
Don't tell me how to think.
